Microindentation Hardness Testing
Is your hardness testing proving too hard?
The webinar will discuss how the nature of the equations used to calculate either the Knoop or Vickers hardness contributes to imprecision at low test forces that produce indents <20 µm in length. Much of the presentation will be devoted to demonstrating the use of microindentation hardness tests for solving a variety of practical problems faced by the metallographer. Comparisons will be presented illustrating the same study using both indenters and a variety of test loads, plus comparison of results with etched and non-etched specimens.Key topics covered in this webinar include:
- What is Hardness?
- Macro versus Micro Loads
- Advantages, Disadvantages, Influence of Test Variables for Vickers and Knoop Tests
- The “Indentation Size Effect” (Vickers Test)
- HRC Test Blocks from 64.2 to 32.5 at Loads from 10-10,000 gf for Vickers and Knoop
- Applications for Microindentation Hardness Tests
